Hey, hey, this is the sounds on vinyl show the only show on the planet that will make your ears bleed
Speaker:My name as always is Phil Boyer and the guy right next to me over here
Speaker:His name is Mike's fence and lead singer extraordinaire past present and future and
Speaker:Before we dive into the show
Speaker:Watch to the end because we're gonna have a very special
Speaker:Announcement one of many we're going to be making over the next
Speaker:Few shows so watched to the end. Oh, yeah
Speaker:What's to the end?
Speaker:Damn, all right. What's going on Mike? Oh
Speaker:You know what? You know what I just figured it out. Does see this guy here
Speaker:Can you see it? It's hard to tell but yes. Yes. It's the coop
Speaker:Is it okay? Yeah, it's kind of small and then my eyes. I got old eyes. So yeah
Speaker:I can't really see, but so that's Alice himself.
Speaker:Yeah, and you see it's all in, the stars are aligned, man.
Speaker:And I'm good, I'm actually in my store at the moment, as you can see.
Speaker:The world famous record store.
Speaker:The world famous record store, the SoundSound vinyl record store in Malmo.
Speaker:and so there you go a lot of records behind me but do it like this you can see my wall of news and my crates down what the fuck am I I don't know there which is weird because when this airs yes you'll actually be in the store selling records yes I will so it's kind of it's it's it's it's because you're closed right now at the moment yep but you will be.
Speaker:Serving up records and treats and fun and conversation and the whole thing here as this airs. Oh, yeah
Speaker:So that's exciting. It is it is especially for me because I get to meet a lot of cool people
Speaker:It's it's strange, but
Speaker:One of this I have to tell you a story. I
Speaker:Got a one of those regulars that I mean
Speaker:It's sort of like it's strange when you meet people that I bet you're
Speaker:The same age will listen to the same stuff growing up. He's a bit older than me
Speaker:Quite a few years old but who cares it is like this and he's
Speaker:one of those guys that were
Speaker:Sort of like he he's a customer, but it's sort of like
Speaker:It's beginning to merge into a friendship if you know what I mean. Mm-hmm. We meet up at shows and
Speaker:What not and and we see each other
Speaker:Every now and then it's not that we we spend time together
Speaker:But it's sort of like accidentally also you're going to that show - okay
Speaker:I'm me too. Maybe we didn't meet up and it became
Speaker:becomes a thing where you think, "Hmm, this is strange."
Speaker:But how cool is it?
Speaker:So I have to do a shout out to Jonas,
Speaker:amazing guy.
Speaker:The one I told you about that met up with the Ramones
Speaker:and Clash and walked out back in the day had a fan scene
Speaker:and being too, the showing Copenhagen were made and opened up for Kiss in 1980,
Speaker:took pictures, is up real close, you can see Paul De Anno's groin if you will, and he took pictures of Kiss.
Speaker:Thank you, no.
Speaker:Yeah, I think we know.
Speaker:I don't need to see that, that's fine.
Speaker:No, but it's up there front and center, which is cool with his cameras,
Speaker:And he took pictures of of Kiss too.
Speaker:And then he was kind enough to scan them for me.
Speaker:And I mean, fucking hell, a small arena in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:With like this big show back in 1980.
Speaker:My God. Yeah, those pictures, man.
Speaker:Fucking hell. Yes.
Speaker:And speaking of awesome artists, what the fuck are we doing today?
Speaker:We're doing the coop man.
Speaker:Alice Cooper.
Speaker:Welcome to my fucking nightmare.
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:Yes, we are.
Speaker:We've talked about this, this record on the show in the past way back when.
Speaker:Yeah, but it, it deserves a track by track.
Speaker:It deserves to sit down and go through it.
Speaker:And as, as you said, it's one of the best records of all time.
Speaker:Yeah, for me, it's up there at least if it's not the top five
Speaker:maybe it's the top 10 but I mention it every once in a while but I mean I change my top top
Speaker:lists every now and then if you ask me do a top five on the top every head I will do a top five but
Speaker:I mean you ask me like 10 minutes later it's gonna be different but it's
Speaker:it depends on the mood but this is definitely up there
Speaker:Since I mean, if we're like diving into it right now, it's, I mean, Alice Cooper for me, it's like watching a horror movie, and I love horror movies.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:And it's a this album is sort of like a soundtrack to a horror movie. It could easily be written into a script.
Speaker:And well, it is a movie, actually.
Speaker:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker:It is the soundtrack to an actual movie.
Speaker:What? What do you mean?
Speaker:This was an actual movie
Speaker:The welcome to my nightmare. Yeah, you didn't know that no
Speaker:Yeah, I've been trying like hell to find it and nobody's got it, but it's an actual movie that Alice Cooper did it's got
Speaker:Just drew blank on his name
Speaker:To have it my notes because
Speaker:Vincent Price god damn it. Yes, Vincent Price is in it and
Speaker:Obviously, we hear him on truck too. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's so it's an actual actual movie. That's why it sounds like
Speaker:But isn't it I mean it
Speaker:Isn't that like a concert? No, no, it's an actual movie movie movie. Yeah
Speaker:Jesus, I did not know that I didn't I didn't know that until we talked about it last time and then when I was doing a little
Speaker:Research I came across that little tidbit and yeah
Speaker:Oh shit
Speaker:Yeah
Speaker:I I've been wanting to see that thing ever since I realized it and I can't find it anywhere
Speaker:Not even but I can't even pay to see it. Oh, okay
Speaker:But but but it's I mean
Speaker:Hmm because I know there is a movie with with live clips and so forth
Speaker:I have not seen the whole thing, but it's sort of like a concert
Speaker:Concert it might be some kind of musical play type of thing. I'm not sure because I've not seen it
Speaker:I don't know much about it. But yeah from what I understand. It's a regular movie and
Speaker:Yeah, this was the this was the result oh
Speaker:the soundtrack is the result of that.
Speaker:- There you go.
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- You learn stuff every day.
Speaker:(laughing)
Speaker:Damn.
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:- All right, let's go track by track then.
Speaker:- Welcome to my nightmare.
Speaker:- Oh my God.
Speaker:Oh my God, are you shitting me?
Speaker:I mean, it's talking about starting out with like,
Speaker:I mean, Alice, I think that people,
Speaker:Some people don't get the greatness of this guy.
Speaker:I mean, he leaves his band at L's Coupo Group.
Speaker:And so this is his first solo thing he did on his own.
Speaker:And he's sort of like, he talks about this often.
Speaker:And I always got what he meant by saying it's supposed to be
Speaker:like theatrical is supposed to be, it's almost vaudeville, if you know what I mean, Groucho
Speaker:Morks and whatnot. And those were the guys that came to the shows in the early 70s, I mean,
Speaker:because they got it. And you have to look at Alice Cooper with, it's sort of like from a distance,
Speaker:if you know what I mean, you can't dive into and say, oh my God, this is sort of like Metallica or
Speaker:or whatever. Now this is a whole package. And listening to this opening track, it's...
Speaker:When you hear the bass just playstaring and Alice sings, it's... I get a doors vibe about
Speaker:it. It's sort of like when you listen to the early door stuff. And I'm thinking that this
Speaker:could easily be a homage to his friend Jim Morrison, the way he presents it. And then when it like
Speaker:halfway in breaks out into a rock and roll song with with all of that, I mean, ah, fuck, it's great.
Speaker:I just love it. Love it. Love it. Love it. Love it.
Speaker:- It starts out with this kind of bluesy intro.
Speaker:- Yeah.
Speaker:And Alice sings all whispering and quiet and I usually fucking hate that kind of music like that singing the type of singing
Speaker:I hate it's like either fucking sing or don't sing
Speaker:Pick pick one. Okay one. Yeah, but Alice makes it work with this. It's part of the
Speaker:See what what I love about to piggyback on what you're saying about Alice Cooper overall
Speaker:He's always created an experience. He's always created this this
Speaker:Show it's not just a concert. It's a show. It's a thing you go to it's a thing
Speaker:Yeah, see an experience and this song and the way he sings it is
Speaker:exactly
Speaker:That and that's why it works as part of that whole
Speaker:Experience yeah, it is and then and then the song jumps into that funky groove
Speaker:and then his vocals completely change again. It's just, you know, something different. You know, the
Speaker:horns, I'm not a big horn fan, even though back in the early days I did play the cornet, but I'm not a
Speaker:big horn guy usually. But the horns on this record, again, it adds something to the music, and it
Speaker:really, I think it really works. And I don't think these songs would be as great without the horns.
Speaker:I think it's just that there's something about it. And I do like it's a package deal.
Speaker:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. And I do love the way the vocals get louder and louder with each first.
Speaker:Yeah. And how he's screaming and screaming. And yeah, and this is all in and it's kind of
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:[INAUDIBLE]
Speaker:Oh, fucking hell, it's OK.
Speaker:Yeah, it was awesome.
Speaker:So yeah, it's a great opening to this soundtrack record,
Speaker:whatever.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:And it's fun because since we're moving along here,
Speaker:It's the next song.
Speaker:All of it, it's like watching Alice live
Speaker:because he doesn't talk between songs.
Speaker:He doesn't have a, it doesn't speak to the audience.
Speaker:It's like going to theater.
Speaker:You get to see the play from start to finish.
Speaker:And that's an Alice Cooper show.
Speaker:There is always something going on.
Speaker:You never get bored between the songs,
Speaker:Some bands, they tend to tune their instruments or that people don't know, "Oh, what's up?
Speaker:What do we do now?" Nobody's talking, nobody's moving, what the hell? But if you watch the
Speaker:stage, there is always something going on. Somebody's running around, there's dolls,
Speaker:and there is swords, and Alice is an entertainer. And that's why going into the next song,
Speaker:devils food is a great theatrical piece I think with the ending monologue of the
Speaker:Vincent Price. Oh my god. I got nothing. You take over.
Speaker:Yeah, it's, it's, I, this is I think my favorite song on the record. I just, it's
Speaker:chaotic.
Speaker:It is.
Speaker:But it's Alice is telling the story. And he's like talk singing in places. And
Speaker:it's just again, it's theatrical. It's not just the song. This guy takes being a frontman
Speaker:to a whole new fucking level. Yeah. I mean, it's it's he's not even a frontman. No, it's
Speaker:a completely different thing. Yeah. And then the slowdown about a minute and a half and
Speaker:then Vincent Price comes in. Oh, my God, it does his little thing. Yeah, about the Black
Speaker:widow. I mean, highly potent fan of a spider. Yeah, love that. I
Speaker:mean, it's just, it's so hot. How you just had that music so
Speaker:low in the background. And yes, in price his voice. If you're
Speaker:old, like us, you grew up with Vincent Price in the horror
Speaker:movies. I remember when he was on the show, the Brady Bunch. It
Speaker:was like, holy shit, this guy is just a master the movies that
Speaker:he was in and all that stuff, he was just, I don't know, again,
Speaker:talk about an entertainer. He just he took these roles to a
Speaker:whole new level and it always is just something in between his
Speaker:voice and Alice voice together on the song. It's like, holy
Speaker:shit, it's like, yeah, okay, it doesn't get any better than that.
Speaker:No. And then I both like and don't like the way the song just
Speaker:cuts off. Yeah. And then the song black hole starts. It's like
Speaker:That's it's unnerving so I think it because it's almost like death in a way. Yeah, but it's kind of like
Speaker:He talks about and leading to death
Speaker:And then oh my god, it's just it's awesome
Speaker:It is it's great. Yeah, I mean vincent prize for crying out loud vincent prize and else cooper. I mean
Speaker:How good can it get? I mean, it's it's fucking awesome
Speaker:And oh, and going into Black Widow. Oh my god, you have to start this one. I don't know.
Speaker:The chorus is a bit creepy. Yeah, I love it. It's kind of like a children's song almost, you know, like London Bridges or whatever. It's sort of like that, but not.
Speaker:And it's just it's just one of those great early Alice Cooper songs. Yeah, got a great bass groove in it. It's just
Speaker:The I don't know what a luminary stew is no luminary. I've no idea what the fuck that means no, but it's a great
Speaker:Saying though it's just I don't know man. The tempo changes at 240 is just I
Speaker:I don't know man. It's just it's another great classic song. Yeah, it's just it's it's not I actually a while back I've read that the song is actually about
Speaker:serial killer or
Speaker:Something like that, but but I just don't know I
Speaker:Yeah, I tend to think that I in my in my mind it's still a spider
Speaker:Which is I think it's it's way better, but I
Speaker:It's the same thing here. I get the feeling of
Speaker:vaudeville musical cabaret and
Speaker:And and what not? I mean, it's it's big. It's bombastic
Speaker:And still it's contained if you know what I mean
Speaker:and and
Speaker:I mean, I believe it's
Speaker:Children or or maybe it's high-pitched
Speaker:Guy is going
Speaker:It's I mean it's fucking great
Speaker:yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's a it's a good tune. Yeah, it is it is. And then we dive into something
Speaker:completely different. Yep. With some folks. Mm hmm. Throwing in this jazzy cabaret, you mentioned
Speaker:Cabaret a second ago, Cabaret style song right in the middle of this rock album. Yeah. You know, I mean it's
Speaker:Stuff like this is not my flavor. No, but I don't know for some reason I kind of like this
Speaker:I kind of like it. It reminds me a little bit of Queen in places. Yeah, like something the Queen would do
Speaker:But you know halfway it changes tempo it gets fast
Speaker:And then it kind of now it's a little more of like a rock song
Speaker:But then it goes back to the earlier groove and I don't know man. It's just yeah, it's it's an unusual
Speaker:Song yeah
Speaker:But it's what I like about the music from the 70s is that you can have this kind of shit
Speaker:Yeah, you try doing something like this today and people are gonna go. What are you doing? Yeah, you can't do that
Speaker:You can't do that. No, you know, what do you do in Metallica with the black album? You can't do that
Speaker:right
Speaker:But this is also like typical Alice Cooper doing doing I mean a song like some folks
Speaker:I mean, it's just it's just the way he is
Speaker:Yeah, I mean
Speaker:Just you sit there scratch your head. I'm thinking what the hell is going on but then you get it
Speaker:It's because it's it fits everything fits together. It's it's
Speaker:The one before and the one after it. Yeah, it's it's like I this little puzzle that all comes together. Yeah
Speaker:and and this is I
Speaker:To people out there who hasn't I mean like you like Phil and I we sit down and do with this track by track and listen to
Speaker:To music and preparing
Speaker:me myself I lived with this album for so long it's it's
Speaker:Embedded in my DNA, but but you can't if we go
Speaker:To to the vinyl part of it listen to this
Speaker:Album on a vinyl record. I actually I forgot I have it with me
Speaker:You see here there you go. There you go
Speaker:Because you get the feeling, I'm showing the album.
Speaker:I mean, people, I'm sorry you're driving to work and you can't see that I'm holding up Alice Cooper's album, "Welcome to My Nightmare".
Speaker:But I'm holding it up.
Speaker:Because you need to listen to this album on vinyl because you are not allowed to skip a beat, a track or anything.
Speaker:Because it's the full monji get here.
Speaker:It's not meant to skip.
Speaker:It's not meant to...
Speaker:Oh, I'll listen to a couple of songs and tomorrow I'll go back.
Speaker:No, none of that.
Speaker:at least once in your life, listen to this from start to finish or otherwise you won't get it.
Speaker:Because everything fits together. It's not like if you skip and you listen to some folks and you
Speaker:get "what the fuck is going on here?" Isn't this supposed to be rock and roll, hard rock, heavy metal,
Speaker:Alice Cooper and then I get a song
Speaker:Like some folks no you don't get it you have to listen to from start to finish. It's like a movie
Speaker:You don't pause you don't go to the bathroom. You don't go to get a soda
Speaker:You sit down in the movie theater from start to finish fucking right now do it
Speaker:By shit you're not
Speaker:Was exception of one song
Speaker:What's the role of that?
Speaker:I let you go.
Speaker:No, the next song.
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:The next song is a piece of shit song.
Speaker:I hate that fucking song.
Speaker:Only women bleed.
Speaker:It's a horrible song.
Speaker:Oh, no.
Speaker:Oh my God.
Speaker:It just grates on my nerves.
Speaker:I and I skipped it.
Speaker:So I have.
Speaker:I can't.
Speaker:Oh, that initial part comes on.
Speaker:I it's I have to skip it.
Speaker:I can't listen to this song.
Speaker:It's it's bad.
Speaker:Huh, it's Steven.
Speaker:It's Steven's youth.
Speaker:Spousal abuse over here.
Speaker:No, it's not the next one.
Speaker:Yeah, but it's always everything is is fit together.
Speaker:Everything is fit together.
Speaker:You know, you have to know the story, my friend.
Speaker:Steven is in there in all of the.
Speaker:Yes, it is.
Speaker:in this on.
Speaker:Still not, you know what?
Speaker:That's fine.
Speaker:I can still skip this.
Speaker:No, don't skip this wrong.
Speaker:What do you have to say about it?
Speaker:What's your take on on it?
Speaker:I love it.
Speaker:I love it.
Speaker:It's a part of Alice's show where Cheryl, his wife, comes out on stage and it's a really
Speaker:it's a hard topic.
Speaker:but he made a song of it, "Spousal Abuse".
Speaker:I mean, I connect this to the child, Stephen,
Speaker:who's featured in a lot of Alice's work.
Speaker:And of course, the song, Stephen, will get to that.
Speaker:But I think everything merges together.
Speaker:He talks about this song and
Speaker:And I think it's, for me, I haven't read, sometimes I get sidetracked, I only listen to the music and I love the music and I grow up, I didn't speak that good English and not today either, but who knows.
Speaker:I mean, someday maybe I'll learn to speak, but I...
Speaker:Better than my Swedish. You don't want me going off on Swedish right now.
Speaker:But I had a hard time growing up, I mean, understanding every word. So maybe it's me
Speaker:right now going off on limb, but I think that only women bleeds talks to
Speaker:where Stephen was when he was growing up, what he witnessed and what he became later on.
Speaker:which is, I mean, what it's all about. It's a storyline. The whole "Welcome to my nightmare" is
Speaker:it's a story in a story, if you know what I mean. I just love it. The short answer,
Speaker:I love "Only Women Bleed". I think it's a great song. It's perfect in his life set. I just dig it.
Speaker:I just dig it
Speaker:That's but that's me
Speaker:Hey, somebody it's a big song for him. I mean, it's yeah one of those more popular songs
Speaker:So I mean it's I'm probably in the minority as I usually yeah these things
Speaker:But do you skip it all always do you always say and I can't listen to it. Oh
Speaker:I can't I cannot listen to that song it bugs the it grates on my nerves man. I want to go kill babies. Oh
Speaker:No, no
Speaker:But I dare you to listen to the whole album including this one.
Speaker:Hey, everybody can.
Speaker:Everybody can.
Speaker:I just skipped that scene.
Speaker:Oh my God.
Speaker:Okay, there's a part in the youth then.
Speaker:Oh, it's like if Kiss and AC/DC got together and had a song, it would be this one.
Speaker:Oh my God.
Speaker:It's just good old rock and roll, right?
Speaker:It is.
Speaker:I mean, it's just awesome.
Speaker:It's even got like a little bit of a punky vibe.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:I know it's interesting. I never thought of Alice Cooper having a punk vibe to him, even though he did a lot of shit on stage that he wasn't allowed to do that was illegal in a lot of places and
Speaker:yeah,
Speaker:obviously shocking and different and he did create his own path. Like we were saying earlier, you know, what what rock and roll guy is going to put something like, you know, some of these songs on a
Speaker:record. He did what he wanted to do. And in that sense, he's very punk. But this song, I don't know,
Speaker:it's got like a little bit of a punk vibe. And I also see where the White Stripes got their inspiration
Speaker:for Seven Nation Army too. Or whatever that fucking song is called. Yeah. Yeah, I just love this song.
Speaker:I mean, from the open and rift to the strumming before Alice starts to sing and how it builds up.
Speaker:and it's really powerful and you got that whole youth brigade, I mean, believing in their power.
Speaker:"Where the department of youth, whoa!"
Speaker:And you get to, I mean, I can't help myself, I go, "Yeah!"
Speaker:Every time I hear the song live, it's like, "Yeah, they wear that department of youth, man!"
Speaker:"Fuck y'all, yeah!"
Speaker:Fucking great. It's, I don't know. It's an awesome song, I dig it.
Speaker:Yeah, yeah
Speaker:Cold Ethel, cool Ethel cold cold
Speaker:Yeah, but it's it's Alice with his like wicked sense of humor
Speaker:It's so twisted and he comes up with this. I mean listen to the lyrics
Speaker:it's it's I
Speaker:Mean yeah, I just love it. It's I I don't know what to say
Speaker:Yeah, I'm feeling biased when it when it when I am supposed to talk about this album because it's
Speaker:I'm so in love with it
Speaker:Yeah, it's it's
Speaker:This song like it epitomizes the
Speaker:rock hard rock music of the 70s it's like
Speaker:every
Speaker:Every band back then
Speaker:Was part of this song
Speaker:Yeah, you know it was just every song is just a spin-off of this one. Yeah, if you will it's just it's awesome the groove the guitar and
Speaker:We got to talk about the copious amounts of cowbell in this song, too. I mean
Speaker:He went nuts with the cowbell. I love it. Yeah, yeah, me too. It's it's it's it's it's great
Speaker:But I mean, on this, he's such a lyricist.
Speaker:I mean, the way he writes lyrics, sometimes it's both humor and you.
Speaker:I don't know. I mean, it's just Alice, the way he moves with his words.
Speaker:And did he just say what I thought he said?
Speaker:Well, I need to check that out and it's all like damn
Speaker:dude
Speaker:Yeah, that's a lunar skeleton kiss
Speaker:We made love under refrigerator. I mean we met last night and made my how is it we made love last night
Speaker:under the refrigerator
Speaker:By the refrigerator
Speaker:Refrigerator right? Yes. Yes. I
Speaker:I mean, yeah, I mean you gotta love Alice Cooper. He's just he's he's he's this wicked dude that did all this stuff on stage
Speaker:But then he's also this this kind of funny guy you see in commercials and stuff
Speaker:And he's not afraid to make fun of himself. No or situation or just be funny
Speaker:Which you wouldn't expect out of this guy from the 70s that used to chop heads off of things. Yeah
Speaker:You know he just seems like he's be a cool dude to hang out with yeah
Speaker:It's it's I heard in a real like some 20 25 years ago and is that
Speaker:What and in a result what scares you
Speaker:Arnity scared about all the stuff. No, no, no, I mean Alice Cooper is
Speaker:He's talking about himself in the third person if you know what I mean, and it's all like no
Speaker:Then the news on TV that scared. That's really scary stuff. I
Speaker:Mean, this is show. Don't get me wrong. This is a show. So so you're not supposed to I mean
Speaker:Everybody that comes to an Alice Cooper show. He said they
Speaker:Hopefully know that it is a show. So the stuff that scares me it's the news
Speaker:I
Speaker:Mean so and and I was really taken aback about that because he's right
Speaker:I mean this this is a show even though he sings lines. Like I have to have to do another one
Speaker:And she's so cool in bed. She ought to be Ethel is dead. I mean come on
Speaker:It's great
Speaker:Oh man, cold Athol.
Speaker:- Cold Athol, yeah, good song.
Speaker:- It is, it is.
Speaker:- And we've come to the end.
Speaker:All good things must come to an end.
Speaker:And now we're entering track eight years ago.
Speaker:- Yes.
Speaker:Circus, Cabaret, Theater, all of it,
Speaker:an Alice Creepy voice in that mix.
Speaker:Mm-hmm. It's awesome stuff. Yeah, it's a great way to close out the record. Yeah, the creepy circus music and
Speaker:That little kid voice singing. Yeah, it's just it's unnerving. It's it is
Speaker:It's so I don't know. There's some about creepy little kids
Speaker:I think that's why children of the corn took off that movie because there's just something about
Speaker:little kids my god
Speaker:They don't do horror moves like they did no
Speaker:I mean you can't find a good horror movie. No, no, I try I try man in there
Speaker:Like okay. No, no, that's not good. I watched
Speaker:What I watch like it was some exorcist movie
Speaker:exorcist
Speaker:The new one. Yeah, it was like a new one and it was like, okay, what what is this garbage like no?
Speaker:No, I'm having my Halloween month at the moment where I watch horror movies, old horror movies
Speaker:So I'm right in the middle of
Speaker:A Nightmare on M Street, so I'm at movie number three
Speaker:Dream Warrior, which is one of my favorites. The first one with Johnny Depp and whatnot and this Dream Warrior
Speaker:with Darken
Speaker:Yes into the fire and Dream Warrior
Speaker:But it's it's so
Speaker:It's so corny so cheesy and still it's so fucking great because I mean
Speaker:Freddy Krueger, I mean what's not to love about that dude?
Speaker:yeah, yeah, and and and I'm before this I
Speaker:Have the box set of this
Speaker:movie
Speaker:Which is like I think it's seven movies or something like that and
Speaker:And my favorites are 1, 3 and I think...
Speaker:Oh, the "West Craven's Nightmare".
Speaker:But I only watched that like one or two times, so I can't remember it.
Speaker:But then I move into the Halloween franchise.
Speaker:Because that's my all-time favorite horror movie, that and Jaws.
Speaker:So I have to watch that.
Speaker:But Jaws for me, it's a summer movie.
Speaker:I don't know why.
Speaker:- Yeah, well, yeah, 'cause I mean,
Speaker:it's the 4th of July, man.
Speaker:That's when it takes place and all that.
Speaker:- I used to watch that in the middle of the summer.
Speaker:But I--
Speaker:- We've been watching it.
Speaker:It's my wife's favorite movie.
Speaker:She's got a poster on her office of Jaws and all that.
Speaker:And we've been watching some of the sequels.
Speaker:We just watched like four or something the other night.
Speaker:It wasn't good, but two and three were actually not bad.
Speaker:- No.
Speaker:not as good as the first though but no no but I get you and and it's the same feeling I get when
Speaker:I've listened to to this album it's it's a great horror movie it's a great story it's it's all of
Speaker:the good stuff that that I grew up with what watching Jason and and Mike Myers and Freddy
Speaker:Krueger and and Joss and whatnot it's I just love it takes me back yes and again it's an
Speaker:experience. And that's why this album holds up. What is it?
Speaker:Almost 50 years later?
Speaker:Yeah, like, well, it is, we're a couple years shy of 50 years on
Speaker:this thing, right? 1975, I think this came out. Yep. Yes. So I
Speaker:mean, it holds up. And for it, yeah, that's why you know, you
Speaker:got something talent right there. Yeah, when it holds up like
Speaker:that.
Speaker:So moving into the next track, Steven, we get to Steven right now.
Speaker:Oh, wait. Yeah. What am I thinking? Okay, you know what? I read my notes wrong.
Speaker:Yeah, there's no more songs on here. That's not the last one. No, no, no.
Speaker:The hell am I thinking? Just ignore me.
Speaker:Yes, I will. I'm gonna still talk about Steven, though. Yeah, let's talk about
Speaker:Steven. Yeah. The child that wakes up and and realizes he committed murder. What
Speaker:What the hell is going on here?
Speaker:Stephen!
Speaker:Oh, I mean, it's, he's captured and incarcerated
Speaker:and he breaks free and whatnot.
Speaker:It's, I mean, it's supposed to be in the story.
Speaker:It's like I told you before,
Speaker:it's, I think that only women believe that it's connected.
Speaker:I mean, people out there who have like,
Speaker:do analyze this album even more than I have, which I haven't really, because I just listen
Speaker:to the music and I just love every part of it, reading lyrics, but it's my own interpretation
Speaker:of it. So I think everything fits together. And so, Stephen.
Speaker:the tubular bells intro. I mean, I love that. I love that. That's the, you know, the
Speaker:exorcist. Just mentioned the exorcist. And then we get to the tubular bells, sounding
Speaker:intro, the orchestral sound that kicks in about a third of the way through the song.
Speaker:And it just it's such a such a well arranged song. Yeah, it's just so crazy.
Speaker:you out. Yeah, yeah, I mean, yeah, it's a very disturbing song.
Speaker:Very, yeah, it is. It is. You know, I like it because it just
Speaker:fits into that experience I'm talking about. Yeah, it just, I
Speaker:don't know. And then at the end, the tubular bells turn into
Speaker:strings, they do it with the strings, which is just fucking
Speaker:awesome. Yeah, it is such a great way to close out that song. It
Speaker:just oh man. Yeah. Awesome. Yeah, it is. And then then I mean,
Speaker:the awakening, which is the next track. I mean, it's it's like
Speaker:we talked to before it's like the horror movie genre all over
Speaker:again, but I mean, it's like everything is merged together. I mean, it blows my mind
Speaker:every time I listen to it, because everything, I mean, it's so genius to write an album like
Speaker:this. So I mean, not every song is my favorite, but I couldn't go without any of them. Because
Speaker:even though I think there are songs on there which are sort of like male.
Speaker:But when I listen to it, it's sort of like if you see the Jaws movie and all of a sudden
Speaker:you see the Jaws attacking the boat to Orca and all of a sudden when he attacks it's
Speaker:clipped, I mean it's cut out to something completely different on the beach and you
Speaker:don't get to see the Jaws, I mean the shark anymore, it's sort of like what the fuck is
Speaker:going on here. You can't have one without the auto if you know what I mean.
Speaker:Right. Everything is supposed to be there. Yeah. So what's your take on that?
Speaker:You know, I love the way it rolls in from the last song. Yeah. Keeps that really
Speaker:disturbing feel. You know, you got this hungry kid in a basement. So much chaos
Speaker:going on in this song. Yeah. Because the guitar seems to be playing a completely
Speaker:different song. Yeah. But but it's on purpose, I think, to give
Speaker:it that disoriented feel. Yeah, right. It's not like Megadeth
Speaker:that it's just whatever the fuck that was. This is on purpose
Speaker:to give it that Oh, like what the hell's going on, right? So
Speaker:yeah, I great. Yeah, great song. Great song. Yeah. And
Speaker:I was going to to escape. I'm okay. Everything it's you're
Speaker:gonna escape. I'm escaping. I'm escaping. I can't with it.
Speaker:Wait, it's it's like the madness you were talking about, it's
Speaker:debauchery. I mean, Stephen gets out and and everything is
Speaker:fucking chaos. And and, and, and that's the end to this great
Speaker:like concept album if you know what I mean. Yes. I mean,
Speaker:everything. I mean, you couldn't have escape without without
Speaker:welcome to my nightmare department or youth or or any of the
Speaker:other songs. So you have to have this too. I mean, it's I mean,
Speaker:it's it's rock and roll, man.
Speaker:Yeah, I think it's got that Department of Youth feel to it.
Speaker:Yeah, this one does it. It's like, I feel like this, I could
Speaker:totally hear kids doing this one. Yeah. Yeah, I get it's a it's a
Speaker:great song.
Speaker:And talking about closing, closing songs, we talked about
Speaker:this before some of the some of the albums that we talked about
Speaker:before we're beginning, I mean, we're sitting there wondering,
Speaker:what the fuck did they close with this song? Yeah, that's a
Speaker:horrible one. Talking about going out on top with this one.
Speaker:It's it's it's just fit starts strong and strong, strong
Speaker:throughout. It's I gave it a 10 for 10. Because it's so well put
Speaker:together. It's, it's an experience. It tells a story. It's, it goes, you mentioned concept
Speaker:album a second ago, I think it goes well beyond like something that mine crime did, right? It
Speaker:goes way beyond a concept record. This is, this is something. I don't know if we ever really seen
Speaker:anything like this again on record that gives it such a powerful image.
Speaker:And I don't know, it deserves to be up there, I think.
Speaker:Oh yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker:Even with women bleed on it, I still give it a 10 for 10.
Speaker:So that tells you how good the rest of the record is that even with that shitty song
Speaker:that I can't listen to, it's still a 10 for 10.
Speaker:My god, it's a shitty song.
Speaker:Jesus.
Speaker:it's great stuff. Yes, it's a 10 for 10 people. Welcome to my nightmare. Listen to,
Speaker:don't believe Phil when he says don't listen to "Only We Mableed." Listen to the song. I dare you,
Speaker:people, from start to finish on vinyl record. Maybe you could get it here at the Sons of
Speaker:Mischir. Probably good. You see? There, there, go there. Go there. Oh and for people that are
Speaker:only listening, I have to, because Phil just pointed to the address. It's Krusegatan Sjuketeri
Speaker:in Malmo, Sweden. There you go. There you go. And that's why Mike speaks the Swedish parts,
Speaker:because I can't do that.
Speaker:And you can actually Google Sansa Minel at the moment, Sansa Minel RecreStore and it's
Speaker:in there in the company profile with pictures and where to go and how to take the bus and
Speaker:how to ride your bike and how to drive your car through the store.
Speaker:I have to look that up and see good directions from here.
Speaker:Let's see how long it'll take me.
Speaker:I'm gonna choose rock and see what it does.
Speaker:(laughing)
Speaker:- I dare you, my friend, I dare you.
Speaker:(laughing)
Speaker:Oh my God.
Speaker:That's some good stuff.

Speaker:- Oh yeah, do it.
Speaker:- You want to do it or you want me to do it?
Speaker:- Oh, you can do it.
Speaker:- I do it, okay.
Speaker:So, this episode
Speaker:is the beginning of something.
Speaker:I was gonna say the beginning of the end,
Speaker:but it's not really the end.
Speaker:But there's only gonna be, after this show airs,
Speaker:four more "Sounds on Vinyl" episodes.
Speaker:After that, well, you'll have to wait for that announcement
Speaker:to see what comes after.
Speaker:- Ooh.
Speaker:- Ooh. - To see what comes after.
Speaker:But yes, the Sounds on Vinyl show will end.
Speaker:I think that it's December 12th, I think, whatever
Speaker:that second Thursday is.
Speaker:Or yeah, I think it's December 12th.
Speaker:That will be the final show.
Speaker:Yep.
Speaker:And as we get through these episodes,
Speaker:we're going to be talking about what comes after that.
Speaker:Oh, yeah.
Speaker:Because it's pretty exciting.
Speaker:It's pretty exciting.
Speaker:- It is, it is, it is.
Speaker:Oh, we can feel the tension in the air.
Speaker:(laughing)
Speaker:- So you gotta keep listening to know what happens next.
Speaker:Oh yeah, we've got some big plans,
Speaker:really exciting stuff coming up.
Speaker:So like I said, it's sort of the beginning of the end,
Speaker:but it's not really the end, it's the beginning of.
Speaker:- Something new.
Speaker:- Something new.
Speaker:- Something new.
Speaker:- I like that.
Speaker:new yes yes something barred something blue now that's on now that's
